Women made up two thirds of the rise in unemployment over the last quarter, with the number of young people out of work risng to more than one million, an analysis of the latest figures by a left-leaning think tank has found.
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) says women and young workers have born the brunt of rising unemployment over the last year.
Joblessness has now risen for the eighth month in a row and the UK’s unemployment total has hit 8.4pc, according to the latest official figures released on Wednesday.
