The Great Debate Tour – What’s next?

Article written on behalf of London South Bank Student President Richard Kuti:

When we talk about racial groups, the use of word ‘black’ couldn’t seem more clear  to some, but not all. For some people it refers to those that are non white descendent whereas others may recognise the term and use it to refer to those of African and Caribbean heritage. So which is right? If used in the latter context, would this mean that all ‘blacks’ share the same experience? Besides, if the word is used so loosely there must surely be some degree of similarity amongst the different racial groups? So many questions…
In collaboration with YBS, Elevation Networks carried out a nationwide tour called the ‘Great Debate Tour’. We engaged with African/ Caribbean students from universities across the UK, from Kings College, to the likes of Goldsmiths, Oxford, Cambridge, Loughborough, Hertfordshire, and many more…

Following on from the tour; Elevation Networks is delighted to announce the first of a series of reports on the experiences of different groups on campus will be THE BLACK STUDENT REPORT. It will focus solely on the experiences of black students in  education and how this affects their outcome in regards to employment.

The Great Debate Tour laid the foundation and raised some interesting questions. We have identified a need, consulted those who we want to talk about it, and  are excited to embark on the journey that could change the way in which  students are seen and understood in the UK. So to be kept informed about the development of the report… keep visiting and leave your comments!
