JOBS: Beyond The Classroom Facilitator/Volunteer
Beyond the Classroom is a theatre in education social enterprise, looking for young people aged 20-25 to help facilitate and mentor secondary school students. This is a great opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in youth work and community development, particularly using the performing arts as a medium for social change. You will be required to exercise a number of transferable skills including teamwork and leadership.
The methods we use are based in the creative arts, using drama, music and dance as forms of communication, so a passion/experience in these areas are key.
Our current project addresses teenage pregnancy, self esteem and confidence in year 9 girls. The programme centres around a theatre production devised and performed by a group of performing arts students. This is followed by a drama workshop, a group mentoring session and a parents evening. As a volunteer, you will be required to facilitate all of these stages.
As a facilitator/volunteer you will need to be:
- Passionate about working with young people and preferably have some experience in Drama or Performing Arts.
- You will need to be vocal and confident in discussing issues surrounding sex with young people.
- You will need to have received no criminal convictions within the last ten years, an enhanced CRB certificate within the last six months would be sufficient evidence of this. If you do not have a CRB we will need to conduct a check on your behalf.
- Experience working with young people would also be preferable however not essential, full training and expenses will be covered.
You will need to be available for:
Interview: one day between the 18th-22nd of June
Training: one day between the 2-8th of July
School delivery: Two days between the 9th and 13th of July
National Citizenship service delivery: 17th July to the 31st (group of 25 16-17 year olds)
