During summer 2017, youth employability charity Elevation Networks took 451 young people from the St Albans and Hertsmere regions on the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. They took part in an intensive programme of outdoor activities and workshops to help them build their life skills before volunteering to help various charities.
A graduation ceremony was then held at the Alban Arena, St Albans on Sunday 24th September to celebrate the young people’s hard work, including 27,359 hours spent on social action/volunteering-based projects. Together they raised an outstanding amount of £25,539.63 for charity and charitable projects.
Our graduation ceremony is a time to celebrate the hard work and efforts that our young people and staff have put in this summer. Our guest of honour Elevation Networks Trustee, Graham Robb kept our graduates inspired with words of wisdom.
After presenting certificates at the graduation ceremony, The Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia, said:
“The Government-backed National Citizen Service is a great scheme that offers young people from a variety of backgrounds an opportunity to develop their skills for work and life, meet new friends and take action to help the local community. I was honoured to present certificates to the 451 young people from Hertfordshire who graduated from the scheme after taking part in a four-week programme of outdoor activities, skill-building workshops and volunteering. I was amazed by how well they rose to challenge of contributing to the local community by together raising £25,000 for various charities. I wish them all a successful future.”
What a success it was to see each young person who attended graduation leave with a certificate signed by our Prime Minister, Theresa May. We look forward to continuing our new relationships with our local charities – Mind in Mid Herts, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, Kissing It Better, Peace Hospice Care, Herts Young Homeless, Amy Winehouse Foundation and so many more. As summer has come to an end, seeing the growth of our NCS programme flourish this year not only with our young people but our members of staff will always continue to be Elevation Networks’ main goal. The purpose of NCS isn’t just to complete the programme and learn a few life skills; it’s about growing as individuals and making a difference.
This year, Elevation Networks will be running their annual NCS Autumn programme in Nottingham, Hertfordshire & Brighton in October/November.
