This autumn, Elevation Networks and Stafford Long partnered with 7 firms on Monday 30th October to bring Uncovering Prospects in the City which took place at Goldman Sachs in London. We had over 80 students attend the event, a significant increase on last year’s figures! Hosted by Goldman Sachs and in partnership with Stafford Long, our student attendees were able to gain careers advice from the following top city firms: BP, BlackRock, EY, Royal Bank of Canada, UBS, J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs.

The day kicked off with a welcome talk from Brian Robinson – Managing Director, Securities at Goldman Sachs who spoke about the importance of learning from failures.

Brian engaged the students with words of affirmation and ended his talk with the following quote:

“Think about changing impossible to I’m-possible.
If not you, then who?”

Our student attendees then has a session with Louise Turgoose – Early Engagement Advisor at BP who spoke about doing online tests and explaining new ways to improve your CV. Did you know that having a strong CV can give you the advantage against others when applying for jobs?

Victoria Didilica – Campus Recruitment & Talent Acquisition at BlackRock then gave advice on interviews, using the STAR technique as well as the importance of commercial awareness.

Professionals from BlackRock, UBS, EY and RBC, all talked about their role at their respective firms and advised the students on their application processes. The day rounded off with a panel discussion from Grant Aidoo-Nash, Funmi Osinowo, Pamela Pumza Hillie CA (SA), Ahtis Davis-Cloyd, Kofi Oteng and Phillip Wright who discussed topics such as BAME inclusion and the different roles within the financial industry. This was led by Elevation Networks’ very own Barbara Kasumu!

After the panel session, it was finally time to network as we came to a close. It was great to see over 80 students from different universities with similar career aspirations come together for #UPintheCity 2017.
